Village of HOPE
Engineering notes, unit counts, layout logic, and site planning standards for all Village of HOPE models using the HOPE 1.0 residential unit system.
The HOPE 1.0 Unit Specifications (Standard Residential Unit)
The Hope 1.0 unit is the standard residential module used across all Village of HOPE models. The following specifications describe its footprint, interior layout, and construction characteristics.
Exterior Footprint
5.9 m (L) × 2.5 m (W)
Approx. 14.75 m² exterior footprint
Interior Usable Space
≈ 14 m² (after walls, bathroom partition, etc.)
Interior Layout Includes
- Two single beds
- Bathroom (shower, toilet, sink)
- Small entry area
- Window + door
Construction Notes
- Galvanized steel frame
- EPS insulated wall panels
- Pre‑installed electrical
- Pre‑installed PVC flooring
Unit Spacing Requirements (Per HOPE 1.0 Unit)
To maintain comfort, airflow, supervision, and fire access, each HOPE 1.0 unit is placed within a defined spacing envelope. These values are used as planning standards for all Village Models.
Front & Rear Setbacks
- Front setback: 1.5–2 m (seating area)
- Rear setback: 1.5–2 m (seating area)
Side Spacing
1–1.5 m each side
Total Module Footprint
≈ 5 m wide × 9.5 m deep per unit
Walkway Widths
- Prime Walkway: 2–3 m
- Door paths: 1–1.2 m
Unit Count by Lot Size (Residential Units Only)
The following ranges represent typical residential unit counts for each Village Model. The office unit is always separate and not counted in the residential rows.
0.5 Acre Model (≈ 2,023 m²)
- 18–22 residential units
- +1 office unit
1 Acre Model (≈ 4,047 m²)
- 38–44 residential units
- +1 office unit
2 Acre Flagship Campus
- 173 residential units
- +1 office unit (confirmed)
Site Layout Concept (All Models)
Each Village Model uses the same core layout logic, scaled to the lot size. This ensures a consistent resident experience, predictable supervision, and a recognizable Village of HOPE pattern.
A. Housing Rows
- Two parallel rows of units on each side
- Row A + Row B on one side
- Row C + Row D on the opposite side
- All units face inward toward the Prime Walkway
B. Prime Walkway
- 2–3 meters wide
- Full‑length pedestrian corridor
- Clear line‑of‑sight for supervision
- Lighting along entire path
C. Door Paths
- Short paths from walkway to each unit door
- 1–1.2 meters wide
D. Office Unit Placement
- Located near the entrance
- Not part of the residential rows
- Provides supervision, check‑in, and staff presence
E. Back‑of‑House Service Path
- Runs behind the units
- Used for maintenance, utilities, emergency access
Diagram‑Style Layout (Universal Template)
The following conceptual diagram illustrates the typical arrangement of the office unit, housing rows, prime walkway, and back‑of‑house service path. This template applies to the 0.5 Acre Model, 1 Acre Model, and the Flagship Campus (scaled up).
Why This Layout Works
- Predictable movement
- Strong supervision lines
- Comfortable seating areas
- Safe spacing
- Fire access compliance
- Easy expansion
- Clean, village‑like feel
- Works with Z‑Fold unit dimensions
Notes for Architects & City Reviewers
- All spacing values are recommended minimums.
- Unit counts are presented as ranges for zoning flexibility.
- Walkway widths meet typical pedestrian and emergency access standards.
- Office unit placement is intentional for supervision and flow.
- Back‑of‑house paths ensure maintenance without disturbing residents.
